Demolition and construction of mooring dolphin

Project overview

Construction of the mooring dolphin (Duque de Alba) at the Cumarebo concrete port. Works included the demolition of the old collapsed Duque de Alba, the construction of the new one, and the driving of 26-inch steel piles. The construction was carried out without interrupting port activities and under aggressive sea conditions. Contract duration: 5 months.

The Challenge

Demolish and rebuild a collapsed mooring structure within an operational port, working under aggressive sea conditions while maintaining the continuity of port activities.

Vialpa Scope

Demolition of the collapsed mooring dolphin, construction of the new mooring dolphin, driving of 26-inch steel piles and associated marine works.

Engineering / Construction Approach

Careful scheduling of marine works to isolate the demolition and pile driving from active port operations, with protective measures against the aggressive sea conditions.

Operational Constraints

No interruption of port activities during execution. Work under aggressive sea conditions. Complete the works within a 5-month timeframe.
